BLACK WOMEN ARE BEAUTIFUL by Celine Leduc

Why Are Black Women Rated Less Physically Attractive Than Other Women, But Black Men Are Rated Better Looking Than Other Men? By Satoshi Kanazawa a doctor in psychology his article was published in Psychology Today. I READ THE ARTICLE and wondered who he interviewed and what his sources were and test subjects. I also want to know the type of questions he asked and his test audience because it seems that he was talking to members of some racist club.

Psychologist will say I am White yet a Black women consider me to be light skinned. As a child I was told that the Devil was Black, and that Black equated ugly and less intelligent. Tintin the famous and infamous comic strip from Belgium showed in Tintin au Congo Black Africans as flesh eaters or cannibals that had big lips and distorted features, they were half dressed, drawn ugly and asymmetrical. Well it was the perception or imagination of Herger and his imagination was very far from the truth. His perspective was warped and he did not acknowledge the fact that his ancestors had gone into the Congo and had raped women, enslaved women, at times disfiguring them, and much worst. Then in his devilish way he portrays them ugly, the ugliness came out of his own prejudice and his fear of looking in a mirror out of fear of seeing the devil.

In reading this article I remembered that I was told do not go in the Black community you are not safe, you will not be treated properly. They will look down on you. Black Women are cruel and mean and look at them they are fat and ugly. The very same people told me as a child to stop being black and loose weight. Truth be told it was a Black woman who was the first made me feel beautiful and taught me ab out fashion, she taught me how to dress up and use colors she gave me self confidence. Another Black women gave me a sense of self-worth by saying as a 10 year old child was right when I disagreed with my father because I was not allowed to play with her son, because he (a Black child) would cause me problems. My father caused me to be minus a friend yet his mom, gave me the biggest hug, that too me is beauty for she saw good in me and she acknowledge it regardless my skin tone, and how hurt she felt. Her son was in danger for he could have been hurt and beaten by racist people. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder and it is objective and subjective.

In a very objective way I can look at a women and her inner beauty that shines in her eyes, I can see the love that comes out of her smile, I can see the darkness of her skin as an added feature that is beautiful for her skin has many colors, it shimmers from gold to dark brown in the sun. I can see beautiful white teeth and I can see hair that is nice and thick. I can see that we are similar as we are women of different skin tone and complexion. Beauty comes out of the soul and radiates in the face, so please look deeper and find the inner and outer beauty of the women that stand in front of you. The inner beauty is the intelligence of the person that sparkles in her eyes.

In my fund raising letter, I speak of Martin Luther King Jr and Malcolm X, I was asked why? Both men of very different ideologies united their efforts to back one women, they got together out of love of one woman, who had suffered injustice and prejudice. Rosa Parks inspired both men for different reason and the civil rights movement in the United States was built on love, love of the self, love of a woman, of tradition....

Love was more powerful than hatred. Yes, hatred was exposed and harsh terms were used to describe the evils of racism, slavery and the role of Americans, former slave masters. The realty was a Black person could not drink at the same fountain a White person could. Blacks could not enter in the front door of a Club they had to go in the back even if they were the main attraction and were star, they could not stay in the same hotel as their musicians who were white be seen with them in public. As Canadians we can say but we are different we had the underground rairoad we liberated Blacks and gave them freedom...

Canada was no better, prior to 1970, signs in store windows in Montreal read: NO CATS, NO DOGS, NO BLACKS other times BLACKS was replace by JEWS OR MOHAWKS. Black people could not have leadership jobs in big companies, were not served at the same time of others, one incident at a Howard Johnson in 1980 Montreal I was with a friend from Jamaica, he was Black I am White, we ordered ice cream, it took half an hour to be served even tough we were the only customers, the ice came to our table melted, when I asked for another dish, I was told you let it melt, you took too much time to eat it.... in 1990, another incident, in a bank where I was with a Mohawk friend, I tried to cash a check from my bank different branch, they refused to cash it for me, because I wore a Mohawk insignia... It is this event that made me reflect on the idea of how hatred is used to unite people. A quick look at hatred as a unifying force in Europe and Africa.

Politically in Europe and In Canada, scapegoats are used to create unity in a country that wants to go to war or wants to justify going to war, it was all about a nose. The nose has been used to rally forces together, Hitler used Jewish crooked nose to unite Germans to a common cause and lead them in a war, and the destruction of the Jews of Europe. In Rwanda, the Belgium government caused racial tension because of the size and shape of a nose. Quebec is not exempt as the Mohawk Nose makes headlines. The nose allows me to smell hatred and racism a mile away... yes it is all about he nose...

The Civil Rights movement was started with a dream of equity and justice, where people would be judged by their character and not their skin tone... Where love of justice and love of equity become unifying forces that we can use a role model instead of the divide and conquer method that has been used to cause war and the death of the innocent....

Whereas; the media written and oral is a reflection of society culturally biased on facts and interpretation for past generation and taught in schools as history.

Whereas, journalists in various media be it written and oral press (radio-television-press and press agencies) can inform people about news and issues that are important, they can also be responsible for perpetuating cultural biases and misunderstandings; hence perpetuating sexism, racism and homophobia by promoting stereotypes.

Whereas; radio commentators can insult women from various cultural communities by stating it is only a joke, or it is a parody or comedy

Whereas; the media propagate misunderstandings, prejudice and racism based on cultural misinformation

Whereas; a complaint can be lodge by a cultural group that has been offended and never by a person of the dominant society

Whereas; institution such as the Human Rights Commission of Quebec, the Conseil de Presse, Association Professionel des journalistes who are there to protect the integrity of journalism oral and written, will look at complaints from the offended party or the woman from a cultural community.

Whereas; journalists in the name of cynicism, comedy often abuse women psychologically by using derogatory comments or words.

Therefore we resolve that the Business and Professional Women’s Club of the Province of Quebec that any person who is offended be it they are from a specific cultural or ethnic community or not is given the right and the legal status to lodge an official complaint on the basis of creating misunderstanding, prejudice, preserving cultural biases, misinterpretations. Any women will be able to lodge a formal complaint, be heard and most importantly get an official answer and be able to make a difference. The woman will be given the same legal rights as the person of the cultural community that is offended; when a journalist, commentator, uses biased and prejudicial and objectionable language, derogatory remarks, biased facts and prejudicial words, slanderous terminology when describing a woman that is different or of another cultural group.

Selene Dreams’ letter to sponsors

Selene Dreams’ was inspired and is motivated by men and their love of women. Martin Luther King Jr. speech “I have a Dream” and motivated by Malcolm X, as both men praised and loved women and they taught me the importance of being a woman. They backed the action of Rosa Parks who refused to give up her seat. Hence my search my personal struggle to find out “What does it mean to be a woman?” There are other men in my life who have made me think, and challenged me, Rabbi Hausman who removed the “original sin” from my shoulders. Louis Hall, of Kahnawake, introduced me to Kanienkehaka women and their spoke contribution. Men have been guides and opened the door the world of women as they taught me about justice, the importance of looking at myself in the mirror and most importantly be a powerful and decision maker WOMAN who seeks equity for all.

Women are not decision makers in Quebec, or Canada. History has never been inclusive. The greater population does not know their history. History as told is an epic story of war and it is written by the victorious one. The one who has won the war; hence it is all about conflict and not about conflict resolution. History, repeats itself over and over and no one reflects or challenges officially this cultural trend.

Yes, history repeats itself; in 1763 two men George III King of England and Louis XV King of France partitioned the colony linguistically and religiously. In 1867 two men John A McDonald and George Etienne Cartier decided and the needs of the dominion. In 2008 two men Bouchard Taylor decide the fate of the future of Quebec. History repeats itself as it is always two men one of British heritage one of French heritage that are decision makers. Hence, the spiritual need to have a publishing company and a bookstore that reflects the reality of life from the beginning of the colony to today. The Bouchard Taylor commission did identify of some problems such as ignorance on the part of the general population about people from various backgrounds and ethnicity, hence, the need to include all voices. Education is the key to respecting ourselves and others through an honest and open debate about the root of intolerance and the seed of systemic racism that has polluted the air we breathe and the world we live in.

I am asking for your financial support any donation big or small will go towards opening a publishing company and a bookstore that will reflect us all, Our Bookstore “BOOK STOP” will offer books that make us think, reflect, ponder and take action.
